I want to explain why I am leaving a two-star review for Countryside Large Animal. This does not come from anger, but from a desire to educate. The two stars belong entirely to the gentleman veterinarian who helped me previously with Heck and Rudy—he was kind, safe, and communicated beautifully. Today’s visit, however, was a different story. Despite scheduling this visit three weeks ago, the staff was entirely unprepared for a herd of only 20 Nigerian dwarf goats. First, the facility lacks a stanchion. A stanchion is an absolute necessity for goat safety. Because you do not have one, your staff fumbled around, pushing the goats' faces. Even worse, I had to physically lock the goats with my legs to immobilize them. I am physically disabled with chronic lower back problems; I should not be doing the manual labor while paying for your services. Your trained staff should be providing a professional and detailed service. Safety protocols were also bypassed. The vet tried to climb into my stock trailer to take rectal temperatures without a headlamp to check FAMACHA, hooves or an escape hatch, and also without asking my permission. I had to stop her because it was a massive safety liability for my herd. I ended up having to guide the goats into a paddock myself using my own shepherd's hook because the staff didn't have one. For a $200 inspection, the paperwork was completely disingenuous. I went through immense travel logistics to get here, expecting a detailed report for each goat (FAMACHA, temperature, hooves, etc.). Instead, I got a one-sentence paper saying the herd "appears fine." You had three weeks to prepare a proper template. Staff needs to ask clients basic questions: Are the goats dam-raised or bottle-raised? (This dictates their behavior). How many wethers and does? Are there any noticeable problems? I hope Countryside grows from this experience and starts treating goat owners with the same professional respect they show horse and cattle owners. Jim

Had to bring a few goats here a couple times for different reasons. Always appreciate the vets we've worked with, and they seemed to do their best to keep the cost down.

We use Dr Mary Hoffman for k&J Ranch show cattle. She’s fantastic with our stock. I’m grateful to have such a great facility to help with veterinary emergencies.
